2019 Plans

2019 will be awesome! Myself, Marge, Farley, Chase and Pepe, and hopefully a new doggie, will be chugging across the southern US through spring and then up the East coast towards Maine to escape the southern heat. I also hope to sprinkle in another trip to Bermuda “You gotta come back in the summer“. This fall will find me retreating from the cold of Maine towards the midwest for many, many, many days of football Read more…

Chasing Cody

Cody Wyoming is a great little town outside of the east gate to Yellowstone National Park.  It is named Cody after Buffalo Bill Cody, and likewise, the town hosts a big Wild Bill center with many tourist attractions.   I didn’t have the time to check it out as there were way too many rivers to fish, fish to be teased, and beautiful areas to explore. Shoshone River System The Shoshone River system was enjoyable as Read more…

2018: Chase Complete

WOW! 2018 has been amazing! Look at these miles I put on Marge and the airplanes! 13 states, 3 countries and endless love and too many memories for my small mind to comprehend. Of course there were a 2 HUGE downers, but it has been a long dream of mine to travel and explore new corners of the world, catch up with #fam, meet new people and experience new things. I’ve really enjoyed catching up Read more…

Chasing Thermopolis

Stardate August 11, ’18 The Wind river runs east from Teton National Park area, along the Wind river mountains, to Boysen Reservoir and then out of the Boysen Reservoir Dam for about 13 miles, though Native American land, until it turns back into public land and the Bighorn River at “Wedding of Waters”.  The Bighorn then runs north through the town of Thermopolis then up into Montana where it flows into the Yellowstone River.   I’ve Read more…

Chasing Casper Wyoming

Casper is the closest town to the famed Grey Reef section of the North Platte river, about a half hour drive from town.    The Grey Reef starts at the dam below Alcova reservoir and flows north towards and through Casper.   The Grey Reef section is a half hour south of town just downstream from Pathfinder reservoir and as mentioned in the Miracle Mile blog post. After leaving Lander I needed some quality time on the Read more…

Chasing Lander, WY

Lander is a fun little town in the center of Wyoming.   The main fishing draw is the Popo Agie river.  It’s pronounced: “Puh – Po Shuh” (two words). Popo Agie is a Crow Indian word that most people believe means “gurgling river.” When the first white trappers arrived in the area the Crow people were here, and that is what they called the river. Unfortunately my time at the Popo Agie and Lander was more of Read more…

Is Wyoming’s Miracle Mile Miraculous?

First of all, big props to San Diego Fly Fishers club, https://www.sandiegoflyfishers.com.  They do many things for the community of San Diego via fly fishing, education and emotional support.   A few of their charitable deeds are Trout In The Classroom, Project Healing Waters, conservation and more.   Trout In The Classroom is where they go to low income children’s school and give them trout fry and let them raise the trout, then take the children and Read more…

Chasing Pinedale Wyoming

At one of the monthly San Diego Fly Fishing club meetings that I used to go to, I saw a gentleman present about fly fishing around his home town of Pinedale, Wyoming.   2 things stick out in my memory about his presentation.  1) He was excited about the trout fishing.    The Green river, its head waters, lakes and tributaries.  2) The town.  He showed a picture of the town with 1 car on the Read more…

Chasing Utah’s Green River

I was very excited to be heading to the Green River in 2018 after last being there in 2015.   Back in 2015 I floated the A section of the river a few times, and the B section once.   It was all good, but I remember the top of the A section being Cicada heavy, where big fish would rise from the depths in crystal clear water to take a large dry fly.  I could see Read more…
